Fiber All Gone

December 17, 2005

When I got home this evening, I discovered that the city of Palo Alto, those bastards, had ended the fiber-to-the-home trial. Just like that. No goodbye, no farewell party, no victory celebration. I had to crawl around in the spider-filled basement to connect my aging router to the Comcast service I’d had installed last week. Don’t ask why the cable modem is in the basement. Or why the basement is filled with spiders. And please, don’t ask why we don’t have any stairs going down into the basement. I have to lift up a heavy wooden plank covering and crawl through a window (where there are really LARGE spiders) to even get into the basement.

Why did the city decide to end a trial program that was an unqualified success?

I’ll just have to hope that the Comcast service is trouble free. Hahahaha.
