Sprint Grinch

December 20, 2005

Since the age of three years my daughter Mere has had a gift for seeking out and discovering her Christmas presents ahead of time. No hiding place has been good enough.

But this year was to be different. I got her a cool new cell phone and said nothing about it. She hadn’t asked for one but I knew she wanted one. And she’s coming home just a couple of days before Christmas, so I figured I could keep it hidden till then.

Sprint decided different.

As I was purchasing the phone the sales assistant said “I’ll need to switch your daughter’s service to this new phone.” I explained that this phone was to be a surprise, and that she’d come in after Christmas to get it activated. I thought I was very clear about that.

I just spoke to Mere, and she told me her cell phone had suddenly stopped working so she’d called Sprint. And guess what the nice Sprint lady said as she switched Mere’s service back to her old phone? “I guess this means you’re getting a new phone for Christmas!”

Damn you, Sprint Grinch! Damn you!
